Appliances... which ones?

Appliances are one of the biggest kitchen purchases during a renovation or construction. Be careful with this one, because if your's are only a couple of years old, then why not incorporate them into your new kitchen? This could save you thousands of dollars you could spend elsewhere.

But if on the other hand your delapidated fridge and stove are what triggered your kitchen renovation in the first place!... then shop around.

In the 1960's kitchens were small and tucked away, with old fridges and stoves that were for function only, not for show. Now adays you can get some pretty fancy looking ones. Decide what you are looking for before you renovate or construct as you need to have specific sizes for fridges and stoves, and also you need to know ahead of time whether you want an icemaker on your refridgerator as plumbing will need to be run for it.. if you want a gas stove top, gas lines need to be run or electricity, so these are things you have to consider.

Make sure your large appliance choice fits your lifestyle, for example, if you have little ones.. stainless steel will get handprints on them in no time, so you will be cleaning more!.. Keep an idea file and pictures from magazines, and your measurements before you head out to shop.

On the following pages are some suggestions, and ideas and the latest and greatest. Since the kitchen has returned as a main focal point in family life. Its now very common to see open concept kitchens, so you want your kitchen to have great function, but also look great...and don't forget about those smaller appliances I like to call "kitchen toys".. there are all kinds of different purpose small appliances now, that will have you whipping up great meals in no time!

I am always adding to this site, as I find more great ways create your pampered kitchen. Remember, the home is suppose to be a soft place to land at the end of a hectic day, and your kitchen should make you feel great not stressed, so keep it in line with your personality, and try to reduce clutter.. that is the number one stressor.. make sure you have a drawer or basket for those bits and pieces that show up on the counter that don't seem to have a home!
