Decorative Shelving... can spruce up a kitchen wall
Decorative shelving is another great way to spruce up a kitchen for very little money.
If you rent, ask your landlord if you can add some shelving. If you make it look attractive, they should find it a great addition. If you own your home, but just don't have the budget to add another bank of cupboards, or just need a bit more space and you have a empty corner, then add some shelves.
Corners represent wasted space, and you can take advantage of this space with some unique corner shelves, you can get "floating shelves" where the hardware does not show, or you can get yourself some original or unusual brackets, possibly from the antique store or from online suppliers as on my other page

Once you have decided how you would like to display the shelves, you can put them up in different ways, such as creating a geometric look, or varying heights and lengths, something to add interest to the wall.
Next, if you need these decorative shelves for simple storage, and the items you want to store are not that exciting, then purchase baskets that you can put your things in, and yet it does not look cluttered. Put a few basket or those colored metal bins you can get now, together for a uniform look. Maybe use one shelf to display your prettiest cups and glasses.
Possibly add a plant for some greenery and interest. Open shelves are great as long as you don't let them get cluttered, or too busy looking, you need to be able to clean them, so by using large bins and baskets, this makes your life easier.
While you are at it, try putting a smaller bin or basket by your front door, or wherever you enter your place.. this would make a great place for keys, mail, everything you tend to drop on your way in, that way it stays out of the kitchen.
