Tiled Countertops... are another choice for a work top surface. This can have a stunning effect, and is quite affordable, just make sure you follow the instructions about sealing the grout after you are finished.

So many people skip this step, they are just so excited to see this fresh clean countertop and want to get using their kitchen, but it doesn't take long for spills to happen (thats me!) that will get into that nice fresh grout, unless you seal it. Once sealed it totally resists staining and should last you for years.. it doesn't hurt to re-seal it every couple of years.. I have found this book on the tiled countertops, that might help!

Try to pick a nice plain tile, it can get a bit busy if you go into patterns!.. Another idea, is to stay away from bright solid colors, go for something more neutral, that will go with any changes you make to your kitchen over time, such as floors and wall color.. this way you will not have to replace your countertop for a long time!.
